Brighton and Hove Progressive Synagogue

Rabbi Gabriel Kanter-Webber was born in Kingston-on-Thames. While studying Politics at Sussex University, he had a Saturday job as headteacher of the cheder at Brighton and Hove Progressive Synagogue, and after graduating spent a year as a youth worker for LJY-Netzer. As a rabbinic student at Leo Baeck College, he served in many congregations as a student, including three years with York Liberal Jewish Community.

Following his ordination in Summer 2022, he was delighted to return to Brighton and Hove Progressive Synagogue, this time as rabbi. He has a special interest in connecting Jewish teachings to contemporary events and social justice issues, and is passionate about enabling people to weave Judaism, subtly but strongly, into their everyday lives.

On the rare day when he has spare time, Gabriel is a keen crochet-worker, and enjoys reading and radio comedy. His wife Manuella (married 2019) is a maths teacher, and they are parents to Omri (born 2020).
