South Bucks Jewish Community (SBJC) held a special ‘prayer, pizza and pyjama’ service to celebrate raising more than £5,000 in the fight against cancer.

The community welcomed the organisers of the Aylesbury Relay for Life to their Friday night service, where the charity’s committee chair Paula Kirby presented a certificate in recognition of the £5,316 raised when the SBJC Strollers team took part in the 24 hour relay in July.

Amanda McFeeters, SBJC Strollers team captain and a Liberal Judaism officer, said: “In honour of the fact that we had walked through the night, many of the congregation came in their PJs, so we celebrated with prayer, pizza and pyjamas.

“The service was joyful, noisy and moving – pretty much like the Relay for Life experience. We have been taking part for the last few years, and have so far raised more than £15,000 for Cancer Research.”

Relay for Life Aylesbury will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2018. To get involved in your area, please visit http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/support-us/find-an-event/charity-runs/race-for-life
