Progressive Judaism remains committed to a two-state solution to the Israel/Palestinian conflict. We believe that both Israelis and Palestinians have the right and deserve to live within secure and peaceful borders.
Our Israeli colleagues, families and friends have suffered tremendously since October 7th, as war and fear have dominated.
As we wait anxiously for the remaining hostages in Gaza to be released, and for those who perished whilst in captivity to be returned to their families and loved ones, Tuesday’s’ statement by US President Donald Trump is very troubling.
We unequivocally reject the proposal that the US government “take over” the Gaza Strip in order to “own it”. Forcibly transferring a civilian population from their land would be both morally wrong, against international law and politically egregious, and would not bring hostilities to a more rapid end.
As Progressive Jews we re-affirm our commitment to the pursual of justice and urge our communal and political leaders to continue to work towards a lasting political solution that prioritises the mutual safety and flourishing of both Israelis and Palestinians.
