Former MP Dame Karen Buck DBE will be the guest speaker at the The Liberal Jewish Synagogue’s annual Multi-Faith pre-Chanukah Celebration. This popular event brings together diverse faith communities in unity and festivity at a special time of year.

The event will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 11 December, both in person and online – so that as many people as possible can participate wherever they live.

One of the highlights will be the lighting of the candles for Chanukah (also often spelled Chanukkah), which serve as a beacon of hope and resilience and remind everyone of the enduring power of faith and community.

Attendees will be given a tour of the synagogue’s sanctuary to learn more about the history and significance of LJS and its role in the community. With its serene and sacred atmosphere, this will offer a moment of reflection and connection. As the saying based on Avot d’Rabbi Natan 6:1 goes, “Let this Sanctuary be a place of gathering and conversation.”

No Chanukkah celebration, of course, would be complete without traditional treats, and LJS has planned a special tea featuring doughnuts and latkes.

LJS extends a warm invitation to members of Progressive Jewish communities, as well as friends and neighbours of all different faith communities and none. Children and their families are especially welcome, making this a truly family-friendly occasion.

To attend in person, guests are encouraged to register in advance. For those who prefer to join virtually, the event will be available via Zoom, with the link sent out before the event. Additionally, the celebration can be watched live on The LJS YouTube.
