Interfaith peace vigil at York Minster

York Liberal Jewish Community (YLJC) were delighted to put Progressive Jewish values into action at a peace vigil at York Minster with Archbishop Stephen Cottrell and Imam Ammar Sacha, the leader or York Mosque.

Miriam Hoffman (pictured centre) spoke movingly on behalf of YLJC with both the Imam and herself coincidentally referencing scripture that “whoever destroys a single human life, it is as if they destroyed an entire world.”

More than 1,100 people – of all ages, backgrounds, faiths and no faith – attended the event.

All took part in a two minute silence, led by the Archbishop, and were then invited to light a candle or leave a message on the central dais (raised platform) which had a large picture of a dove of peace on it.
