Around 100 people attended a lunchtime recital by the Kinneret Ensemble at The Ark Synagogue in Northwood.

Led by violinist David Richmond – with David Silkoff (piano), Rabbi David Hulbert (violin), Lynette D’Souza (viola, piano) and Francesca Fenn (‘cello) – the Ensemble played Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and Vivaldi.

A programme of recitals started at The Ark in early 2021, but after a fine saxophone quartet came to play, lockdown intervened. So, the Kinneret came to re-launch the new programme.

The varied set list enabled all five musicians to shine. Lynette D’Souza and David Silkoff gave a bravura performance of Schubert’s Fantasia for four hands. Messrs Richmond and Silkoff offered a sensitive reading of the Mozart sonata, K305. The recital ended with fine ensemble playing in Haydn’s string quartet, Op 33 No 6.

Rabbi David Hulbert, who is the Emeritus Rabbi of East London & Essex Liberal Synagogue said: “We were expecting an audience of 20, but five times that number turned up. We were delighted to be joined by so many appreciative chamber music connoisseurs… many more people than listen to my sermons!”

The Kinneret will be very welcome if they can return for a future date.
