Liberal Judaism’s series of Open House Shabbats continues this Saturday (17 December) at 11am with a very special service at Brighton & Hove Progressive Synagogue (BHPS).
BHPS will be celebrating the induction of Rabbi Gabriel Kanter-Webber (pictured) as the synagogue’s new permanent rabbi. The service will be co-led by Liberal Judaism CEO Rabbi Charley Baginsky, BHPS’s Rabbi Emeritus Elli Tikvah Sarah and Liberal Judaism Vice President Rabbi Danny Rich.
Founded in 1935, BHPS has long been a centre of inclusion and egalitarianism in the Jewish community. The synagogue building was beautifully renovated in 2015 and this will be a great opportunity for members and friends of Liberal Judaism to see it. The Shabbat service will be followed by a celebratory kiddush,
Everyone is welcome to attend, please just email susank@bhps-online.org. For those who cannot be there in person, you can watch live via YouTube here.
The Open House Shabbat initiative will see each Liberal Judaism congregation hold at least one Shabbat during the year, for which they will open their doors – whether in-person, online or both – to the rest of the Liberal Jewish world and beyond.
About Brighton & Hove Progressive Synagogue:
We are a thriving community with over 300 members in Brighton and Hove and across Sussex. Our Hebrew name, Adat Shalom Verei’ut (Congregation of Peace and Friendship), expresses the values we live by and aspire to.
Members of both sexes play full and equal roles in every aspect of the congregation’s religious, social and educational life. BHPS abides by the affirmations of Liberal Judaism. Visitors are always welcome and we very much look forward to welcoming you, either at a service or social event.
