The next LJ@120 Open House Shabbat will take place this weekend (Friday 3 and Saturday 4 June) at The Ark Synagogue in Northwood.
The Open House Shabbat initiative will see each Liberal Judaism congregation hold at least one Shabbat during the year, to celebrate our movement’s 120th anniversary, for which they will open their doors – whether in-person, online or both – to the rest of the Liberal Jewish world and beyond.
The services at The Ark will begin with a special liturgy and a unique selection of music to celebrate Liberal Judaism’s past, present and future.
The community will also mark that 70 years have passed since Her Majesty the Queen ascended the throne – joining together in prayer to express gratitude for the Queen’s steadfast concern for the welfare and freedom of all living under her reign and her commitment to justice and liberty.
Those helping to celebrate over the weekend will include the Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Robert Voss, Leo Baeck College Dean Rabbi Dr Charles Middleburgh and Liberal Judaism CEO Rabbi Charley Baginsky.
Shabbat services begin at 6.30pm on Friday and 11am on Saturday, with people invited to arrive from an hour earlier in person for coffee, tea and socialising.
The Ark’s celebration of Liberal Judaism will then continue into Saturday evening with a joint Tikkun Leil Shavuot with Liberal congregations in Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh, South Bucks and beyond from 6pm.
Those wishing to watch online can do so live via The Ark’s website or YouTube channel.
