Liberal Judaism is delighted to announce a special Community Briefing with Mariuma Ben Yosef, the founder of Shanti House, on Thursday 21 October at 8pm.
The event is open to all, via Zoom, and will give everyone a chance to hear about this amazing Israeli organisation and Mariuma’s own inspiring journey.
Shanti House opened its doors in 1984 for youth (aged 14-21) who were at risk and in immediate danger. Since then, it has provided shelter and assistance to tens of thousands of young people – regardless of religion, race, nationality or gender – helping them shape their way into independent life.
Shanti House doors are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without the need for official referral or waiting period.
Mariuma has dedicated her life to developing a unique therapeutic method, based on her personal experience, having been homelessness at the age 14.
She was born in New York and grew up in Israel and then Boston. She left home as a teenager, after suffering abuse, sleeping on the streets of Boston. On her return to Israel, Mariuma resolved to help other youths who were suffering as she had.
Today, Shanti House has two campuses, in Tel Aviv and the Negev, that have helped more than 46,000 young people.
This Community Briefing is being held in association with the Embassy of Israel, London, and will be chaired by Liberal Judaism CEO Rabbi Charley Baginsky. It is open to all.
