On Friday morning, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti, killing at least 2,000 people and injuring more than 12,000.

World Jewish Relief will be responding, working with a local partner to meet urgent humanitarian needs. Liberal Judaism fully supports its efforts.

The earthquake came at a time when many Haitians would have still been at home. It was a shallow depth quake with a number of aftershocks and has caused extensive destruction.

Haiti is still reeling from the earthquake that killed upwards of 100,000 people in 2010 and the hurricane that devastated vast swathes of the country in 2016. Its economy is in ruins and it remains in the midst of political crisis.
