The Rabbi Harry Martin Jacobi Memorial Lecture (Jan 24)

15 December 2020 – 29 Kislev 5781

All members and friends of Liberal Judaism are invited to attend the inaugural Rabbi Harry Martin Jacobi Memorial Lecture on Sunday 24 January 2021, from 2.30pm.

The online lecture will be delivered by Rabbi Dr Margaret Jacobi on the topic Religion & Justice: From Leviticus to Lily.

Margaret, the daughter of Rabbi Harry Jacobi, has been the rabbi of Birmingham Progressive Synagogue since 1994. She will reflect on her father’s concern for justice and compassion and the influence on his life of Lily Montagu, whose Yahrzeit is that week.

Margaret will also survey how religion and justice are intertwined and how justice has been variously understood, beginning with Leviticus and concluding with the writings and life of Lily Montagu and her enduring influence on Liberal Judaism.

The lecture will take place from Southgate Progressive Synagogue (SPS) and can be watched online.

Registration is free. Please contact the SPS office on office@sps.uk.com or 020 8886 0977 for further details and links.

Should you wish to make a donation to SAFE PASSAGE, a charity close to Harry’s heart that helps child refugees, it will be most appreciated. You can donate at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/harryjacobi.
