By Rabbi René Pfertzel (on behalf of the Biennial At Home Committee)

We are now just two days away from Liberal Judaism’s Biennial At Home – our movement’s flagship event of 2020.

It may be taking place entirely online, rather than in the usual venue of a gorgeous hotel, but that means the Biennial offers a unique opportunity to live by its theme, Liberal Judaism: Collaboratory.

Thanks to technology, you will be able to connect with Liberal Jews from all other the country and beyond, and enjoy a very promising programme.

There are no less than 12 sessions exploring the many facets of collaboration – within our movement, between our communities, with the larger world and with Israel – study sessions on prayer, theology and Jewish tradition, three Shabbat services, two Kiddushim, one Havdalah and an evening of entertainment with Dave Lynn, one of the few British Jewish drag queens!

There are also two keynotes – the first featuring Mathew Gould in conversation with Daniel Finkelstein, and then a tribute to our own Rabbi Danny Rich.

And if you feel oysgezoomt, suffering from Zoom fatigue, all these sessions will be also available online after the Biennial, allowing you to watch it at your own pace, maybe joining friends and communities for streaming parties.

I want to thank my colleagues from the Biennial 2020 Committee for their ongoing commitment and many ideas, and give a particularly warm and heartfelt thank you to those who work at Montagu Centre. Without them, nothing would have happened. And of course, a huge thanks to our tech guru, Leo Mindel from Northwood & Pinner Liberal Synagogue.

I am looking forward to seeing many of you online over the weekend.
