As we read the news of more horrendous attacks – this time in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio – our first thoughts go, of course, to the bereaved and injured. They will be held in our prayers.

Once again individual men have shown the depth to which members of the human race can sink.

There are many things to now reflect on – including inflammatory rhetoric from those in power, the use of the internet to spread racism and hate and the principles and practices of gun ownership – as we ask how to bring an end to such shocking violence.
