Statement about events at University of Essex

21 February 2019 – 16 Adar I 5779

Rabbi Daniel Lichman, Chaplain for Progressive Jewish Students
21 February 2019

Progressive Jewish Students echoes the UJS in their disappointment at the events around the recent vote regarding the establishment of a Jewish Society at the University of Essex. We know how key it is to have Jewish representation on campuses around the country, especially at universities where there are few Jewish students.

In addition, the antisemitic comments shared by the university’s lecturer are deeply shocking and we hope that the university will engage with UJS and their call for an investigation regarding this matter.

Progressive Jewish Students will continue to work with our students around the country to help them have a Jewish experience while also feeling safe and supported on campus. If any students would like additional support on campus or to discuss issues which have arisen, please contact the PJS team.
