Norwich’s Liberal Jewish Community said a sad farewell to Rabbi Leah Jordan (pictured) on Saturday in an emotional service at the Old Meeting House in Colegate.

“Leah has been our rabbi and spiritual leader for about five years” said Annie Henriques, the community’s chair.

“During this time, she has proved to be inspirational, with a very wise head on her young shoulders. Her bravery on speaking out on human rights issues has underpinned her compassionate leadership of our community. We have more than doubled in size during her time with us.”.

Rabbi Leah aged 31 and originally from Kansas City, met her husband Rabbi Benji Stanley at a rabbinic training college in London. She is planning to study in Israel.

Amongst the gifts given to Rabbi Leah was a book of photographs published in her honour by the NLJC of her time with the community.

“Leah has been exactly right for the community’s needs” said Ms Henriques. “She has encouraged us to reach out to people of other faiths. We are very pleased that our annual Sukkot service has become an important interfaith event. She has given us confidence in our identity.”
