Liberal Judaism would like to congratulate Danny Rich on his election as local councillor for West Finchley in Barnet.
Danny is currently on Sabbatical from his position as Chief Executive of Liberal Judaism and obviously will serve as a councillor in a personal capacity.
Tikkun olam, a key value of our movement, teaches that Jews should engage in social action to improve the communities within which we live. For some of our members this may mean becoming directly involved in politics.
Liberal Judaism is not aligned with any political party and we have members who are involved across the political spectrum, as well as with activist groups. We welcome and encourage this as a reflection of our values.
Danny will return to working at Liberal Judaism next month, but will play no part in any work where there may be – or be seen to be – a conflict of interests between his two roles.
The Liberal Judaism Board of National Officers and senior leadership will continue to support Danny in his work as a magistrate, prison chaplain and now local councillor and value the work he does not just for Liberal Judaism but for the larger community.
