Lucian Hudson meets King Charles III

Lucian Hudson, Vice President of Liberal Judaism played a pivotal role in this year’s Maundy Service at Durham Cathedral, welcoming King Charles and Queen Camilla as they marked their first observance as Monarchs at this historic ceremony.

As the Director of Advancement, Marketing and Communications for the University of Durham, Lucian helped orchestrate the event’s significance for the university and broader community.

The Maundy Service traces back centuries, founded on the principle of humility and charity. Traditionally, the monarch distributes Maundy money to local pensioners in recognition of their service to community.

Newcastle Reform Synagogue Chair Linda Scott and President Brenda Dinsdale were also proud to be among the invited guests.

Linda said: “We were delighted that NRS was represented as part of the various faiths and denominations for the traditional Maundy money presentations.”

Brenda added: “It was more than a ceremony, it was an affirmation that faith, leadership and service are universal ideals, no matter the tradition they originate from.”

The presence of Progressive Jews at this key Christian event was an example of the importance of interfaith relations and Jewish representation in ceremonies rooted in other faith traditions.
