Rabbi Abraham Geiger (1810-1874) was one of the key figures in the development of Reform Judaism, which began in Germany in the early 19th century.
Today we may know him mainly as a ground-breaking liturgist, but there was a great deal more to him than his two prayer books of 1854 and 1870.
He was a prolific author and ideologue, and a challenging polyglot academic who was one of the first scholars to investigate the connections between Judaism and Islam, and the Jewishness of Jesus.
This session, led by Rabbi Dr Charles H Middleburgh, will give an overview of all aspects of Abraham Geiger’s life before then focussing on some of his liturgical innovations.
