Rabbi Dr Albert Hoschander Friedlander (1927 – 2004) was an extraordinary rabbi, teacher and friend.
As the Director of Rabbinical Studies and then Dean of Leo Baeck College, he mentored and shaped the next generation of Progressive clergy.
Serving Westminster Synagogue from 1971 to 1997, he played a pivotal role in shaping the spiritual life of the congregation with his deep wisdom and compassionate leadership.
He was also Vice President for the World Union for Progressive Judaism and deeply involved in interfaith work through the Three Faiths Forum and Council of Christians and Jews. In 2001, he became the first overseas-born rabbi to be awarded an OBE.
This session will reflect on his remarkable contributions, examining the deep impact of his unique combination of teaching, leadership and personal connection.
