Rabbi Leah Jordan student talk

To raise the profile of Progressive Jewish Students (PJS), Rabbi Leah Jordan was invited to speak at Goodenough College – the cross-university post-graduate college in central London – during Inter Faith Week.

Throughout the year, the Dean, assisted by the Members of the College’s Academic Committee, invites prestigious speakers to give lectures – known as Port Talks.

In hers, Rabbi Leah addressed an audience of more than 20 people from universities including LSE, UCL, SOAS, KCL – speaking about Progressive Judaism and her role as Progressive Student Chaplain.

She also led a Torah study session – where students worked in pairs to learn Rashi, the main commentator on the Torah. Rabbi Leah said: “This allowed the group to see how we do Torah study with students and how it can bring out interesting discussions in a different way than academic learning can, as well as build relationship and community.”

Matan Flum, a PhD candidate at UCL, hosted the evening. He said: “Rabbi Leah’s Port Talk during Inter Faith Week was an exceptional experience for the Jewish Society and its friends at Goodenough College, and I was thrilled to listen to her intriguing approach to Judaism.”
