Liberal Rabbis and Cantors at Kallah

The rabbis and cantors of Liberal Judaism held their annual Kallah retreat, using it as an opportunity to learn and pray together, and especially to take restorative time.

Led by Rabbi Sandra Kviat (Crouch End Chavurah) and Rabbi Gili Zidkiyahu (Nottingham Liberal Synagogue), the colleagues used the retreat to support and learn from each other.

Rabbi Aaron Goldstein (The Ark Synagogue) said: “Every Kallah has a different focal point, sometimes focussed on practical outcomes, other times on prayer and meditation and always upon drawing us together as colleagues.

“This year, in tumultuous times, it was also a chance to take a moment for ourselves so that we return to our congregations inspired and re-energised.

“Kallah is a gift that hopefully sees us through a year of being busy in our own Congregations, knowing that we can support each, with resources and emotionally.”

This year’s Kallah included a chance for the clergy to explore the use of harmony, with song leader Judith Silver, and finding meaning in text study expressed artistically, led by art specialist Jacqueline Nicholls. Rabbi Gili also led a Shacharit service combining contemporary Israeli music with meditation and movement.
