The launch of the eighth cohort of Liberal Judaism’s flagship course for training lay prayer leaders took place this weekend at the Montagu Centre, a fitting venue named in honour of one of the movement’s pioneers, Lily Montagu. This special occasion not only marked the beginning of an exciting journey for 14 participants but also served as a heartfelt tribute to Miss Lily’s legacy in nurturing lay service leaders.
Open to members of both Reform and Liberal Judaism, participants hail from diverse communities across the UK – including Bristol, Kent, York, London, Bournemouth, Brighton and Northern Ireland. This rich mix of backgrounds and experiences promises to enhance the learning environment and foster meaningful connections.
Rabbi Anna Gerrard, serving as the rabbinic lead for the course, brings her expertise and passion for inclusive worship to the forefront of this initiative. She is joined by three experienced lay service leaders, each of whom will provide invaluable support and mentorship throughout the program. Together, they aim to empower the new cohort with the skills and confidence needed to lead prayers and enhance spiritual life within their communities.
Rabbi Anna said: “As this eighth cohort embarks on their training, they do so not only as individuals seeking personal growth but as representatives of their communities. This launch marks a significant step in strengthening lay leadership and deepening the communal experience of prayer and reflection.”
