Rabbi Cantor Gershon Silins formally inducted by TLSE

13 June 2024 – 7 Sivan 5784

Rabbi Cantor Gershon Silins was officially welcomed to The Liberal Synagogue Elstree (TLSE) in a special service, after working in the community for the last year.

Rabbi Danny Rich and Cantor Tamara Wolfson led the induction service along with the synagogue’s singing group. It was introduced by TLSE Chair Leigh Renak with concluding blessing led by TLSE Life Vice President, Rabbi Alan Mann.

Rabbi Gershon said: “Danny has supported me since I arrived in the UK in 2011 and was my ordaining rabbi in 2019, so it was wonderful to have him by my side again. Tamara brought the beauty of song into our service, along with so many others.

“Because I’ve been in post for over a year, this was not only a hopeful wish for a good future (which it was) but also a recognition of the time I have already served as rabbi at TLSE. That made it especially meaningful for me.”

Following the service there was a reception, Israeli dancing and a delicious afternoon tea, during which the community were musically entertained by Franklyn Gellnick.

The congregation were joined by many other rabbis, guests and dignitaries including Liberal Judaism Acting Chair Karen Newman, Mayor of Hertsmere, Town Mayor Cllr Apha Collins, and his wife, the Rev Louise Collins, as well as Cllr Graeme Alexander and synagogue member, Deputy Mayor Cllr Dr Dan Ozarow.
