Every rabbi knows there’s no safety net when you conduct a service. You’re on your own as you juggle the demands of prayer, procedure and an expectant congregation.
Which has all been fantastic practice for Rabbi Miri Lawrence’s other calling – as a circus performer.
Rabbi Miri, along with circus school My Aerial Home, will be part of a performance to tell the history of The Blumenfeld Circus at JW3 on Sunday 23 June.
The Jewish arts and community centre on Finchley Road will be transformed into a mini circus top, as Miri and the team of aerial circus artists showing how the Blumenfelds rose from humble beginnings, as rural fairground performers, to create one of Germany’s leading circuses during its golden age (1870s-1920s).
Rabbi Miri said: “I am so excited to tell the story of the Blumenfeld Circus. We will perform a range of aerial acts and afterward invite anyone to try some of the skills for themselves.
“I’ve moved from getting fit to becoming a trapeze artist. Who knows others might find circus skills in story form to be just the thing they’ve been looking for.”
