Celebrating 10 years of Progressive Judaism in York

19 June 2024 – 13 Sivan 5784

It was a very special Shabbat at York Liberal Jewish Community (YLJC), as the congregation celebrated its 10th birthday.

In a moving moment, Rabbi Elisheva Salamo welcomed new members to the community following their acceptance into Judaism at the Beit Din.

There was also an informative and deeply touching presentation from the Czech Memorial Trust, whose Torah Scrolls are held by many Progressive communities, including YLJC.

Two of the community’s founders, Ben Rich and Lilian Coulson, had the honour of cutting the birthday cake (pictured).

Our next issue of LJ Today will reflect on the creation of the community and its decade of success.
