The Boards of Reform and Liberal Judaism have outlined their steadfast commitment to creating one new unified Progressive Judaism, after a successful first joint meeting.

While acknowledging that there is much work to be done, the informal gathering agreed that there is a real desire to work together in true partnership.

Movement for Reform Judaism Chair Paul Langsford said: “The occasion was warm, friendly, and positive. We learned how much we have in common and how much binds us together. All in all, it gives us increased commitment to the rightness of being one movement.”

Liberal Judaism Chair Ruth Seager added: “What struck me most was how we are all of one mind that the creation of a new single unified Progressive Judaism movement in the UK is a no-brainer.

“It’s clear to all of us that this is the right thing to do and the right time to do it.”

The meeting was also attended by Liberal and Reform Judaism Chief Executives, Rabbis Charley Baginsky and Josh Levy, who gave an update on what has been achieved so far in unifying the two movements and the next steps ahead.
