Join Liberal Judaism this Sunday (18 December) for two first night of Chanukah events.
At Southgate Progressive Synagogue (SPS), the Friday Night Rock Service Band will be playing a special Chanukah Rocks service.
This family friendly event is open to everyone – so bring the kids, bring the grandparents and bring everyone in-between.
The hugely popular Friday Night Rock Service Band – who were started at The Liberal Synagogue Elstree (TLSE) by the late Simon Cooper – take familiar pieces from the synagogue liturgy and perform them in the style of bands including Status Quo, Led Zeppelin, The Darkness and Guns N Roses.
The service will led by by Rabbi Danny Rich of SPS and Rabbi Cantor Gershon Silins of TLSE and will include a chavurah supper (where everyone brings a vegetarian dish to share).
To attend in person and to arrange a dish to bring, please contact Barbara Martin on marti.babs@btinternet.com or by calling 07929 175 390. Those attending are asked to arrive by 5.30pm, so the service and performance can start promptly at 6pm.
For those unable to be there, you can join us live from 6pm on YouTube here (and below) or Facebook here.
During the evening, both for those attending in-person and watching online, we will cut to a historic ceremony taking place in York.
Members of York Liberal Jewish Community (YLJC), led by Howard Duckworth, have been involved in organising a ground-breaking service at Clifford’s Tower, the site of one of the worst antisemitic massacres of the Middle Ages.
The Making History: Chanukah 2022 event will be the first menorah lighting to ever happen inside Clifford’s Tower. Liberal Judaism CEO Rabbi Charley Baginsky will speak at the event.
