FPS Open House Shabbat

The next LJ@120 Open House Shabbat will take place this Friday (20 May) evening at Finchley Progressive Synagogue (FPS) and will be a special anniversary Shabbat Resouled service.

The Open House Shabbat initiative will see each Liberal Judaism congregation hold at least one Shabbat during the year, to celebrate our movement’s 120th anniversary, for which they will open their doors – whether in-person, online or both – to the rest of the Liberal Jewish world and beyond.

This will allow Liberal Judaism to showcase and amplify the work of our communities, give us all a chance to support each other and, of course, celebrate a wonderful 120 years so far.

Shabbat Resouled is a creative and musical service with original and familiar melodies. It was created 15 years ago by Dean Staker and former FPS rabbi, Rabbi Neil Janes.

This special service will not only celebrate 120 years of Liberal Judaism, but also look forward to the 70th anniversary of FPS, which will be celebrated in 2023.

FPS’ Rabbi Rebecca Birk said: “We are proud constituents of Liberal Judaism and delighted to be showcasing our services as part of celebrating Liberal Judaism’s strength and diversity across its congregations.

“Music and worship is an important pillar of Liberal Jewish life and we are proud to play a part. We look forward to welcoming folk this Shabbat to our sanctuary and our services.”

To book your place at the service or receive the Zoom link, please email zoe@fps.org.
