Homes for Ukraine

The Government has launched its Home for Ukraine scheme, giving people in the UK the chance to help those in crisis by taking in Ukrainian refugees.

It will enable individuals, charities, community groups and businesses to volunteer accommodation and provide a route to safety for Ukrainians, and their immediate family members, forced to escape their homeland.

Sponsors should provide accommodation for as long as they are able, but there is a minimum expectation of six months.

You can find out more and register your interest here.

Liberal Judaism has welcomed the scheme and know that many of our members will wish to take part.

Liberal Judaism CEO Rabbi Charley Baginsky, along with CoLRaC Co-Chairs Rabbi Rebecca Birk and Rabbi Dr René Pfertzel, said: “This scheme resonates deeply with the Jewish community who are acutely aware that many of our own survival depended on the welcoming arms of this country.

“Refugees who have left everything behind deserve the opportunity to have some of their humanity returned through the opportunity for safe homes food and work and we hope this is the beginning of us partnering to facilitate this.”

We know that members and communities will be keen to find out more, so are holding a special Community Briefing at 8pm tomorrow (Thursday) about the scheme and how to support it. To receive the Zoom link, please email Tom on t.rich@liberaljudaism.org.

Liberal Judaism also continues to lobby the Government to provide safe and legal routes to the UK for all refugees and opposes the Nationality and Borders Bill, which would criminalise refugees forced to take dangerous routes to this country.
