Dr Robert Bud, a member of Finchley Progressive Synagogue, received an MBE for Services to the Science Museum and Northern Industrial Heritage in the recent New Year’s Honours list.
Robert is Emeritus Keeper at the Science Museum, London, where he was a senior curator for 40 years.
He said: “I have been concerned throughout my life with the relationship between the cultures of science and technology and the rich cultures of citizens. As a museum curator, historian and member of the Jewish community, this has driven my activities.
“I have wrestled with the particular attraction of science to those brought up within Jewish communities. This has been the experience of my family over four generations, first in Germany and then from the late 1930s in Britain.
“Liberal Judaism has given me the space and inspiration to continue this wondering and debating within a religious, spiritual and tolerant environment.”
