JCORE is holding an urgent meeting this Sunday (4 July) from 7-8.30pm on the Government’s proposed new immigration plans.
Titled ‘Not Welcome Here’, the meeting will examine at the reforms, which propose the most far-reaching and concerning changes to the UK’s asylum system for years.
Under such proposals many Jewish refugees, who fled to the UK from mainland Europe in the 1930s, would likely not have been protected.
The meeting will be addressed by Kindertransport refugee, campaigner and peer Lord Alf Dubs (pictured) and Enver Solomon, Chief Executive of the Refugee Council. It will be Chaired by JCORE Executive Director, Dr Edie Friedman.
Edie said: “These plans strongly negate the values of justice and fairness which are central to our Jewish identity, and demand a strong response from our community.
“Please join us for this event to hear how we can amplify the Jewish voice in opposition to the appalling plans, and how we can change the conversation in support of a fairer and more compassionate asylum system.”
Liberal Judaism is encouraging all members to attend. You can register for the Zoom meeting by clicking here.
