LJ Today - March April 2021 front page

The latest issue of Liberal Judaism’s bi-monthly magazine LJ Today is a special edition, celebrating the memories of those we have lost in 2021.

Two pages are dedicated to Rosita Rosenberg, whose whole adult life was spent building Liberal Judaism and who served as our movement’s Executive Director from 1989-1997 – the first woman ever to hold the role.

Rosita founded communities all across the country, drove Liberal Judaism to new heights and acted as a mentor and guide to many of today’s leaders and rabbis.

Inside we look at the lives of Henry Cohn and Peter Benscher, towering figures who gave so much to their communities – Birmingham Progressive Synagogue and East London & Essex Liberal Synagogue – and our movement.

Plus there are tributes to Howard Shopper, who many will remember for everything from chuppah-shlepping to Patrons’ Dinner organising, and the intersex activist Abi Jay – a leading part of Liberal Judaism’s Twilight People project.

Elsewhere in the issue there is an interview with Rabbi Tanya Sakhnovich – who talks about joining The Liberal Synagogue Elstree and her 12 wonderful years at Nottingham Liberal Synagogue – details the upcoming Biennial 2021 and an in-depth look at what is happening with our students and young people.
