Former LJY-Netzer movement worker Anna Posner is returning to Liberal Judaism as the new Progressive Judaism student chaplain.
Anna – who will graduate as a rabbi from Leo Baeck College this summer – will support Jewish students and build the presence and vibrancy of Progressive Jewish life on campuses throughout the country.
She will work with Progressive synagogues and their members, as well as all those from 16-22 in the LJY-Netzer and RSY-Netzer youth movements.
Anna said: “I can’t wait to begin making connections with students all over the country and help facilitate community building on campuses, as well as working with students to navigate the new (but temporary) challenges that come with being limited to online spaces.”
In addition, Anna been appointed as the new rabbi of Beit Klal Yisrael (BKY), the central London community that prides itself on recognising the true diversity of the contemporary Jewish experience. She will also support one other Liberal Judaism community.
She added: “Beit Klal Yisrael was set up 30 years ago to be a space for people who did not feel included in other Jewish communities. At that time particularly LGBT+ Jews who did not see the same inclusion in the wider community that they see today. BKY’s ethos is to create a critical dialogue between Judaism’s religious and secular intellectual heritage with a view to voicing new and distinctive forms of Jewish descent.
“BKY’s members are active and passionate. I see the community growing over the next few years and continuing to explore what it means to be an inclusive, creative, and welcoming space, where everyone can feel involved.”
- We will have a full interview with Anna in the next issue of LJ Today.
