Solidarity Iftar with Muslim Uyghurs

1 May 2020

All members and friends of Liberal Judaism are invited to join The Liberal Jewish Synagogue (LJS) and René Cassin for an Iftar of solidarity with the Muslim Uyghur community.

The event takes place on Monday 4 May at 7.30pm and will be live streamed on YouTube.

Tickets are free and can be reserved by clicking here. Details of how to participate in the event will then be shared with ticket holders on the day. Please note that security measures will be in place.

The action is joint effort by the LJS and human rights charity René Cassin to highlight how it is the responsibility of each and every one of us to act against the detention and persecution of the Uyghur minority in China.

The event will include welcomes from LJS Senior Rabbi Alexandra Wright and Dolkun Isa, president of the World Uyghur Congress, as well as personal testimonies from members of the UK Uyghur Community.

It is estimated that close to two million Muslim Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities are being detained indefinitely in ‘re-education’ camps in China’s western Xinjiang Region, where they are forced to deny their religion and culture as ‘backwards and dangerous’. You can read René Cassin’s briefing paper on the crisis here.
