Biennial weekend keynote speakers

5 May 2020

Matthew Gould, Danny Finkelstein and Rabbi Danny Rich will be the keynote speakers at Liberal Judaism’s upcoming Biennial At Home event.

The Biennial At Home will take place from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 May and will use the latest technology to bring our movement’s flagship event directly into people’s houses. Its theme is Liberal Judaism: Collaboratory – providing an open space and a creative process where partners work together. You can read more about it here.

Matthew Gould (pictured left) is the CEO of NHSX, a joint unit between the Department for Health and Social Care and NHS England. It was set up to ensure that staff and patients have the technology they need and is instrumental in developing an NHS contact-tracing app that hopes to help limit the future spread of coronavirus.

Matthew is a former British Ambassador to Israel, where he set up the UK-Israel Tech Hub, and also had postings in Tehran, Islamabad, Washington and Manila.

He will be in conversation with Danny Finkelstein (pictured right), a columnist for The Times and Jewish Chronicle and Conservative member of House of the Lords. Danny is also a proud Liberal Jew who regularly raves about his membership of Northwood & Liberal Synagogue in print.

Their keynote conversation will take place at lunch time on Saturday 23 May and focus on whether past experiences of collaboration have any relevance for our future learning, and what has any of this to do with Liberal Judaism. There will also be a chance for members to quiz Matthew and Danny in a Q&A.

Later on Saturday afternoon, we hand over to Rabbi Danny Rich (pictured centre) – the recently departed chief executive and senior rabbi of Liberal Judaism.

Danny will discuss the highs and lows of his 15 years in the role and his significant achievements growing our movement and making its voice, impact and dedication to equality even more powerful. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to pay their own tributes to Danny and his leadership of Liberal Judaism.
