Reading Liberal Jewish Community (RLJC) held a surprise Pink Shabbat to celebrate the award of a PhD to Rabbi, now Dr, Miri Lawrence.

The synagogue was specially decorated and many congregants wore pink, which is Miri’s favourite colour. Cheder children created cards and banners and everyone enjoyed pink challah and other pink-coloured food at the kiddish afterwards.

Miri said: “The Pink Shabbat was a complete and beautiful surprise. For me it was just one illustration of the warmth and creativity of the wonderful community at RLJC.

“The community always look out for one another in all the circumstances of life. It was wonderful to celebrate together in this way and I was touched by every single detail in creating a unique Shabbat morning service.”
