Liberal Judaism has pledged its full backing for the new Government initiative to make comprehensive relationships and sex education compulsory for all school children.
Under the Children and Social Work Act 2017, the Government has committed that relationships education (primary) and relationships and sex education (secondary) will become statutory in all schools, including faith schools.
The new guidance also makes explicit mention of LGBTQI+ relationships and families, at both primary and secondary level.
Liberal Judaism’s senior rabbi, Rabbi Danny Rich, said: “Whilst responsibility for relationships and sex education remains primarily with parents, research shows this is often ‘hit and miss’.
“The education system needs to prepare young people for the complexities of modern living.”
