Francesca Kurlansky has been appointed as Liberal Judaism’s Progressive Jewish Students fieldworker, where she will help provide community building, learning and programming for young adults.

Francesca, a member of South London Liberal Synagogue, joins the Alliance for Progressive Judaism’s student provision, which also includes Maya Skaarbrevik and student chaplain Rabbi Daniel Lichman.

The Alliance for Progressive Judaism was created by Liberal Judaism and Reform Judaism in 2014 as a facility by which both movements can contribute to joint projects, where pooling resources and sharing expertise will be of benefit to Progressive Jewish life in the UK.

The Alliance’s Progressive Jewish Students team offers educational and religious support for Progressive Jewish university students, as well as rabbinic and pastoral care. They also support students in building a vibrant Progressive Jewish life on their university campus, including egalitarian initiatives in order to empower everyone to engage with their Judaism. She said: “I am so excited to be starting this new role. University can be an incredibly overwhelming yet exciting time and I look forward to supporting our young people through it and helping them to retain a vibrant connection to their Judaism whilst they are away from home.”
