If you are heading to the Limmud Festival then keep an eye out for several of Liberal Judaism’s rabbis and lay leaders, who will be presenting there this year.
Our presenters will include Rabbi Aaron Goldstein (‘How to enthuse Jews in the Pews? Making our synagogues flourish’), author David Hirsh (‘Whitewashed – antisemitism in the Labour Party’) and Liberal Judaism officers Graham Carpenter (‘It’s not over until the Progressive lady sings!’) and Robin Moss (‘What is the responsibility of British Jews who support a two-state solution to help secure the other state?’).
Gillian Merron, a member of Lincolnshire (Liberal) Jewish Community and chief executive of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, will run a session entitled ‘Has nationalism returned to Europe?’, while Rabbis Leah Jordan and Richard Jacobi will be co-leading the Progressive services throughout Limmud.
East London & Essex Liberal Synagogue member Abigail Jacobi is one of Limmud Festival’s co-chairs, responsible for delivering the event – which takes place over the next week on the outskirts on Birmingham.
Twenty-six year old Abigail (pictured above right), a family support worker who was previously Liberal Judaism’s outreach coordinator, is one of the annual event’s youngest ever organisers.
She told the Jewish Chronicle: “Limmud has always been a leader, we feel, in letting people speak and be open and understand each other – and this year is about really taking this ability to a new level.”
