Rabbi Danny Rich and the leadership of Liberal Judaism have urged all communities to hold a special Shabbat on Saturday 25 November for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Recent statistics from Jewish Women’s Aid – who are spearheading the initiative alongside the Board of Deputies of British Jews – found that one in four women in the UK will experience domestic violence during their lifetimes.
The charity, which is the only specialist organisation in the UK supporting Jewish women affected by domestic violence, has seen its clients almost double over the last 18 months.
Danny, Liberal Judaism’s senior rabbi, said: “Domestic violence happens in all communities and that’s why Liberal Judaism is urging support for this special Shabbat on 25 November.
“Don’t close your eyes to domestic abuse in this area. Please support the efforts of Jewish Women’s Aid.”
