A team from The Liberal Synagogue Elstree (pictured) were the winners of this year’s Liberal Judaism Annual Inter-Synagogue Quiz, after beating Kingston Liberal Synagogue by just one point.

Teams from Northwood & Pinner Liberal Synagogue, Mosaic Liberal Synagogue in Harrow, Finchley Progressive Synagogue, Bedfordshire Liberal Synagogue and hosts Southgate Progressive Synagogue also took part in the closely fought contest.

Liberal Judaism’s senior rabbi, Rabbi Danny Rich, said: “With 80 people present and questions, quizmaster Julian Sampson and a scrumptious tea provided by Southgate, it truly was an evening to remember.

“The annual Liberal Judaism quiz is always hotly contested, so many congratulations to Elstree on their victory. I hope to see even more people and teams taking part in 2018, as part of this annual tradition that has now been running for more than 50 years.”

Betty Davis, the wife of Liberal Judaism vice president and quiz founder Geoffrey Davis, presented the trophy to the Elstree team, who have now won it two years running. Bedfordshire Progressive Synagogue will host next year’s event.

Victorious captain Michael Reibscheid said: “It was again a great quiz, and very close as we only won by a single point from Kingston.

“Personally I am delighted to see that my former community of Bedfordshire will be hosting next time. We are already counting down the days.”
