Members of LJY-Netzer raised £645 by collectively completing a marathon on their recent Machaneh Kadimah summer camp.

The money, which exceeds the Liberal youth movement’s initial target of £500, will go towards Abraham’s Tent, the project to turn part of South London Liberal Synagogue into a self-contained home for a refugee family.

Every LJY-Netzer member and leader ran, walked, crawled or danced their 200 metre leg of the 26.2 mile marathon, each choosing a style that most suited them.

Movement worker Ellie Lawson said: “LJY-Netzer is dedicated to social action, as one of our pillars is tikkun olam (repairing the world), and this idea came about after members voted for Abraham’s Tent to be our Charity of the Year.

“We are all really inspired by the Synagogue’s plan to turn an old caretaker’s flat into a self-contained home for a family fleeing persecution.

“We are so grateful to everyone who sponsored us and appreciate any further contributions to this worthy cause, as we continue to support the refugees entering the UK.”
