The Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Lords (Alf) Dubs and (Danny) Finkelstein, Board of Deputies’ Chief Executive Gillian Merron and sociologist and writer David Hirsh have been announced as the keynote speakers for this year’s Liberal Judaism Day of Celebration.
Our movement’s biggest event of 2017, the Day of Celebration will be held at Northwood & Pinner Liberal Synagogue (NPLS) on Sunday June 11 from 9:30 to 16:30. Tickets are available now and can be purchased by clicking here.
Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin (pictured) is Chaplain to both the Queen and the Speaker of the House of Commons. She will speak on ‘The role of faith in leading opinion and action’.
Labour Peer Lord Dubs – known to so many members of Liberal Judaism for his incredible work with refugees – will deliver his keynote address on the topic of ‘kindness, being right and the power of empathy’.
Lord Finkelstein describes himself as “The Times political columnist, football columnist, Conservative member of the House of Lords and father of three but not necessarily in that order.” He is a favourite at Liberal Judaism events, having previously given insightful and entertaining addresses at the 11th annual Council of Patrons’ Dinner and the 2011 Day of Celebration.
Rabbi Rebecca Birk, who chairs the Day of Celebration organising committee, said: “The calibre of our speakers reflects the principle that Liberal Judaism has impact disproportionate to its size, and is the place people want to share their stories. That is certainly something to celebrate.”
The Day of Celebration – which will address the question Is Liberal Judaism Political Judaism? – will also see Liberal Judaism’s rabbis leading sessions and discussions.
