The new East London & Essex Liberal Synagogue had another reason to celebrate this Shabbat, as community stalwart and lay leader Alice Wilcock celebrated her 50th birthday.

Alice was called up to the Torah by Rabbi Richard Jacobi, before her family and friends joined her on the Bimah to read the Haftarah and blessing for the State of Israel, the community and Britain’s Royal Family.

Alice was then presented with a birthday cake (pictured), a new tallit and a donation to her chosen charity.

Alice said: “It was a truly amazing birthday and I can’t wait to wear my new tall it!”
