LJY-Netzer’s Yamim (school years 9-10) have raised £240, and counting, to help young refugees as part of their annual charity weekend.
The Liberal youngsters set up a fundraising page for RefugeeYouth.org – a charity that provides a happy and welcoming environment for refugees who have entered the country, allowing them to create bonds with one another and express themselves creatively.
The group chose the charity and created the campaign themselves, after research time, sharing their fundraising page with family and friends on social media and via email.
LJY-Netzer movement worker Hannah Stephenson said: “Yamim have truly inspired me this past weekend. They did everything themselves, giving a really empowering leadership experience. It’s already proved a huge success, far surpassing their initial target of £150.
“Well done Yamim – I couldn’t feel prouder and more honoured to know you all!”
The weekend took place at Southgate Progressive Synagogue and gave the group a chance to catch up with old friends, and bond with new ones. It included a Tu Bishvat Seder and meditative prayer session.
