Reading Liberal Jewish Community (RLJC) is set for a bright future with the appointment of a new rabbi and the re-opening of its cheder.
Rabbi Miri Lawrence-Cohen will lead the first Shabbat morning service of every month. She has been a frequent visitor to the community over the years along with husband Howard, a Liberal Judaism officer and mohel.
Reading’s Jane Carpenter said: “Miri and Howard are very much part of the RLJC family so we are delighted that she has become our new rabbi.
“The new year of 5777 has also seen the first lessons for the new cheder at Reading. After several years without any cheder aged children we now have an enthusiastic class of four delightful young ladies, who have been baking challah, making cards and building a Sukkah.”
The community also recently celebrated the batmitzvahs of Noya Noble, 70, and 12 year old Amelie Cohen.
