Liberal Judaism has sent 120 Shabbat packs to students around the UK, providing them with a warm and light-filled December.
Each pack contained Shabbat and Havdalah candles, a challah recipe and yeast packet, clove spices for Havdalah, blessings, ideas from LJY-Netzer for a restful and meaningful Shabbat and more.
Introducing the pack to students, Liberal Judaism’s student chaplain, Rabbi Leah Jordan, wrote: “We at Liberal Judaism wanted to help you make a warm and bright Shabbat for yourself and your friends at this darker, colder time of year, especially if you are away from home.
“Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel once wrote that Shabbat is a ‘time where the goal is not to have but to be, not to own but to give, not to control but to share, not to subdue but to be in accord.’
“With this Shabbat student pack I hope you can find some of that feeling of being, giving, and sharing.”
Liberal Judaism will also be sending out student packs on Purim and during end of year exams. To sign up please click here or email Leah on leah@liberaljudaism.org
The student packs are supported by the NLPS Trust for Progressive Judaism.
