Brighton & Hove Progressive Synagogue (BHPS) has won a prestigious Sussex Heritage Award for its state of the art building.
The synagogue, which recently re-opened after redevelopment, has a new layout and beautifully designed interior to follow the community’s ethos of inclusivity and diversity.
The community received a hand crafted slate plaque to place on their building after winning in the Ecclesiastical Category.
BHPS member Myra Bianco, who headed up the redevelopment scheme, said: “We are delighted to have won this award. BHPS has been our home since 1937 and has long been in need of modernisation. Brighton Architects ZSTa, following a prior agreement of an overall design scheme by Preston Rubin Associates, have done an amazing job.”
The internal layout of the synagogue offers a large sanctuary, office, library, education rooms and much more over two floors. The space is also open to the wider community.
